an immersive evening of ambient electronic music, live performance, and collective listening inside The Lock-Up's historic gallery spaces.
Created by Newcastle artists homebody (Chloe Toole), WAY LIE (Caleb De'Athe), and Rose White, A Deep Listening Experience invites audiences into a calming and inclusive environment where sound, space, and visual art meet.
The evening begins with a live listening session of homebody's debut album prefrontal cortex. A Wiradjuri artist originally from Bathurst, Chloe's practice draws on personal experiences, place, written word, and sound. The album reflects on identity, trauma, culture, and healing, creating a grounded and contemplative space for listening and connection.
From there, the artists come together for an extended collaborative performance using vocals, spoken word, violin, piano, soft synthesisers, field recordings, and textural soundscapes. Designed as a meditative journey rather than a traditional concert, the performance encourages attentive listening and quiet exploration.
Audiences are invited to experience the space in their own way. Sit, lie down, stretch, draw, wander, or listen. Bring a cushion, a sketchbook, with friends or come alone. This is a curated space to slow down experience sound differently.
Presented alongside Izabela Pluta's exhibition Cavitation, the performance responds to and resonates with the artworks on display, creating a unique dialogue between sound and image.
