Fusing the passion of folk music, the precision of classical, and the spontaneity of jazz, 'Cigány Weaver' create a rich and vibrant atmosphere for both the heart and mind. Front woman, Jo Davie's soaring vocals and enchanting gentle demeanour combine with the fiery violin, dynamic guitars and driving rhythm section to create a purely acoustic group that effortlessly navigates the musical nexus between intimacy and raucousness.
Their critically acclaimed second album 'Episode II: Still Water' (2024) garnered widespread recognition, earning a nomination for 'Album of the Year' at the 2025 Queensland Music Awards, while the single 'Horatio Hornblower' reached finalist status in the world music category. This success builds upon their previous accolades, including two National Live Music Award nominations for Best Australian Jazz Act and Best QLD Act.
It is as likely to find Cigány Weaver packing out shows at renowned festivals as it is to find them playing a secret gig in a jazz bar. By drawing inspiration from the past, the sextet's signature compositions and arrangements weave a musical tapestry, contributing a new direction to the Australian music scene.
