Event description

The Fourth Concert in the Illawarra Folk Club Covid Concert Series.

And what better way to celebrate hope, than a wonderful cast of local performers:

The witty Kay Proudlove, the captivating Claire Roberts & the Melbas and the rollicking band, Chord-eaux.

Kay Proudlove: Engaging, emotional and witty, Kay is an indie-folk singer-songwriter with a remarkably agile, honest, soul-bearing voice and a wry, dry-ice sense of humour. With a live performance style that is much like being invited into her lounge room, her songs are truly stories set to melody, by turns relatable, humorous and heartbreaking. Creating an intimacy between audience and performer through vulnerability, Kay’s live show is likely to leave you wondering whether all of the songs were about you.

Claire Roberts & the Melbas: Long time member of the Illawarra Folk Club, Claire Roberts, often says that she is hanging up her guitar for good but then gets inspired to have a 'come-back tour'. Russell Hannah has accused her of her of being like Dame Nellie Melba, who did the same. So The Melbas has been formed, with Claire on guitar and vocals accompanied by talented, local musicians John Nichols, Glen Bowker and Greg Costello.

Claire’s influences are many. She has performed as a solo singer all over Australia and performed in Bush bands, Eureka and Pinchgut which had a residency at the famous Argyle Tavern in Sydney in the 80s and supported Peter, Paul and Mary at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on their anniversary tour. Claire has chosen a theme of 'rivers' for this concert. Songs like the poignant Diamantina Drover (Hugh McDonald) and the beautiful Katherine River (Sarah Storer). There are a few other surprises in her set as well.

Chord-eaux: When thinking of Scotland, you immediately conjure up thoughts of the patriotism of William Wallace and Robert The Bruce, beautiful places that have inspired songs, the highlands, Craigh Na Dun, Bonnie Prince Charlie, rebellion, massacre, and the one song that is known and sung regularly around the world. Chord-eaux will cover all of these and more with Scottish songs and tunes as a pre-celebration of St Andrew’s Day. It will be a veritable feast of Scottish culture.
