Live Webinar: Navigating Autistic Burnout in Children and Young People
Event description
Do you know any children or young people who you think might be experiencing autistic burnout?
Are you finding it difficult to know where to turn or what to do to support and help them?
Join us for an informative and practical session on this critical topic with Jodie Clarke, an AuDHD researcher and autism practitioner based in the UK, with a passion for lifting up the voices of Autistic children in their experiences of masking and burnout.
In this informative session Jodie will share:
- How to identify Autistic burnout in children and young people (including how it can be misunderstood or misdiagnosed as depression)
- How to understand what can cause or contribute to burnout - including the increased stress and expectations young people can experience as they interact with systems and environments not designed for them, and;
- How to support young people with burnout, though a low-demand and child-led approach and a wholistic view of their wellbeing and recovery
Jodie has worked with neurodivergent children and young people all her adult life. As an experienced practitioner with both a Post Graduate certificate and Masters degree in Autism, Jodie works directly with families by carrying out assessments for educational needs and mentors young people. Her new book, Stop The World I Want To Get Off, was recently published in January 2025 and provides a guide to understanding and supporting children and young people in the recovery from Autistic burnout. Jodie has also self-published a book aimed at autistic teenagers about burnout, called Young, Autistic & Burnt Out.
You can find out more about Jodie on her website.

A link to the live workshop on Zoom (or a similar platform) will be provided prior to the event.
Note as this presenter is joining our session from the UK, which is in a vastly different time zone to Australia, we are holding this session outside of our usual business hours at the point of greatest compatibility between our time zones. We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause.
If you are unable to attend at the scheduled time, please note that it will be recorded and will be available on demand. The recording will be available on the virtual event hub (access valid for 60 days after the event) shortly after the live webinar ends, so that you may watch it at a time that is suitable for you.
Professional ticket holders will receive a 1 hr CPD certificate for their attendance after completing the feedback survey.
Please note that we no longer receive government support which allowed us to offer our events at a significantly reduced cost. We are still committed to running events at as low of a price as we can for Autistic people and their families, but have had to increase our ticket prices to help cover our costs. Therefore, we are no longer able to offer a free ticket option at checkout. If you are facing significant financial hardship or other marginalising circumstances, and this topic is of particular relevance to you please email learning@reframingautism.org.au.
