Overview

How we make decisions is so important to how we live our day-to-day lives, as well as big life changes – such as moving home.

Join us for this conversation to learn more about:

How you can better support people making decisions about where they want to live.
Developing a vision of what kind of housing will work best.

Part 1: Making decisions

Part 1 of this Lunchtime Conversation will help people think about decision-making processes in working through different housing options.

We will offer a range of resources and tools that people making and/ or supporting decision making might find useful.

Michelle Browning from Decision Agency will explore the value of using a supported decision-making approach guided by important principles and a structured process.

Teresa Micallef from Belonging Matters in Victoria will share a little bit about Circles of Support and Microboards. Teresa will explain how they can assist people to make the everyday and bigger picture decisions in their life – such as moving into one’s own home, as well as helping people create a meaningful life in community. Intentionally bringing together natural supporters in someone’s life is a significant way to build trusted relationships and friendships, to support people as they make decisions about their own lives.

Part 2: Developing a vision about where you would like to live

Part 2 of this Lunchtime Conversation will focus more on home - where people live, and who they live with.

Faye Minty CEO of Enliven Community, will lead this conversation. Enliven Community is a not for profit organisation funded by Enliven Property, to raise awareness of housing options for people with disability. Options, that deliver quality housing outcomes.

The conversation will help people to:

Think about where they live now
Develop their vision about what kind of housing would work best for them now and into the future.
Learn more about the pros and cons of the housing options that are available.
Develop confidence for the next steps they can take on their housing journey.

We will be using the updated ‘My Housing Matters’ workbook as a key resource for this part of the conversation.
The ‘My Housing Matters’ workbook is a resource published under licence from Queenslanders with Disability Network.

The Opening the Door project is also developing other resources to assist people with exercising choice and control with where they live.

More about the Opening the Door project

This event is one of a series of Lunchtime Conversations being delivered through the Opening the Door project. Online sessions are recorded to view after the event.

The Opening the Door project aims to support people with disability to achieve choice and control with their housing options through:

Developing and sharing online resources
Forums designed to both share information and gather experiences
Support existing and establish new peer networks.

The project is for all people with disability regardless of their type of disability or age, and whether they are a participant in the NDIS or not.
