Description

Neurodivergent people experience significantly higher rates of chronic illness, including autoimmune, central sensitivity, metabolic, connective tissue, cardiovascular, lung, and dysautonomia-related conditions.

Yet neurodivergent people face substantial barriers to accessing health care with ongoing experiences of systemic discrimination, stigma and medical gaslighting. This results in greater difficulty managing symptoms, chronic burnout, lower quality of life, and, ultimately, shorter lives.

This two-hour webinar delivered by Jennifer Kemp, clinical psychologist and late-diagnosed Autistic ADHDer, explores the core processes of chronic illness and offers practical pathways to wellbeing from the perspective of a health professional living with chronic illness.

Created for neurodivergent adults with chronic illness and the mental health professionals who work with them, this webinar will explore:

  • Common experiences in chronic illnesses, including fatigue, brain fog, anxiety and burnout

  • The impact of grief when adjusting to chronic illness

  • How to harness interoceptive awareness to identify triggers, guide pacing and practice self-compassion

  • How to overcome internalised ableism and other internal barriers to self-care

  • How to navigate the “triple empathy problem” using self-advocacy skills

  • Practical, self-compassionate pathways to wellbeing and quality of life

Before You Register

This webinar is for neurodivergent people living with chronic illness and the health professionals who work with them, many of whom are living with chronic illness themselves.

The webinar content offers general information, not individual medical or psychological advice, and is not a substitute for your own professional medical team.

We will talk honestly about the realities of chronic illness, including grief, loss of functional capacity, not being believed by clinicians, disability discrimination, and specific health symptoms. Some of this may be difficult to hear, particularly if these experiences are close to home for you.

You're welcome to turn off your camera, step away, or leave at any time if you need to. If you feel distressed, please seek support from your therapist or trusted professional, or contact a mental health hotline in your local area.

Before registering, consider whether this content and format are right for you right now. If you're unsure, please check in with your therapist or medical team first.

FAQs

  • Do I qualify for a disability ticket?

Disability tickets are intended for people with a disability, including neurodivergent people, who are unable to work full-time.

  • Can I get a refund if I change my mind and no longer want to attend?

Our standard policy is to provide a 100% refund up until 24 hours before the webinar commences (less Humanitix fees). Cancellations are processed directly through Humanitix.

  • Can I cancel my ticket and get a refund after the event?

Cancellations are only available up to 24 hours prior to the event. Once the Zoom link has been sent out, cancellations and refunds are no longer possible.

  • Will I get a certificate of attendance?

As we cannot monitor attendance at live events, nor confirm whether people have watched the recording, we cannot offer attendance certificates.

Most professionals can use the Humanitix payment receipt as proof of completed CPD. To help with this, the duration (2 hours) is included in the webinar title. Please save your receipt at the time of purchase.

If you also require a copy of your paid invoice, please email info@adelaidebehaviourtherapy.com.au.

  • Can I get CE credits for this webinar? [US & Canada only]

[For US & Canada-based attendees only]

Due to the cost and complexity of registering events for Continuing Education (CE) Credits in the US and Canada, we are unable to offer CE credits for this webinar.
