From New Zealand Beginnings to Better Beginnings: Advancing care for newborn infants

Robinson Research Institute is honoured to host Professor Terrie Inder, MD as our 12th annual Lloyd Cox Memorial Lecture speaker. This free public annual event is aimed at researchers, policy makers, academics, clinicians, and the public who have an interest in women's health and reproductive medicine. This lecture series features international research and policy leaders tackling grand challenges in reproductive health, women's health, and early life, bringing some of the most inspiring researchers from around the world to Adelaide, to present on thought provoking topics.

Presentation abstract:

This lecture brings together the journeys of Lloyd Cox and Terrie Inder, both of whom began in Aotearoa New Zealand and went on to pursue a shared scientific mission: to understand the newborn infant and translate that knowledge into better care, improved development, and healthier lifelong outcomes.

The lecture will explore the developing newborn brain and the pathways leading to adverse neurological outcomes in both term-born and preterm infants. It will highlight key scientific insights and therapeutic advances from the past two decades, as well as their implications for contemporary neonatal care.

Finally, the lecture will reflect on Professor Cox’s enduring philosophy and its continuing influence on transformative advances in neonatal outcomes through scientific discovery. It will conclude by considering emerging opportunities for investigation and innovation in the care of newborn infants.
