    Event description

Koonung Bushwalking Club invites you to join them on the Currawong Park - Local bush ramble in urban bushland. This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria.

An introductory walk through local bushland in a ‘wilderness-like’ experience close to home, just a stone's throw from Doncaster in Melbourne's eastern suburbs!

    DISTANCE:  7 km loop.

WHO IS THIS WALK FOR? A great beginners walk, showcasing a local walk/bike path along the pretty Mullum Mullum Creek for the first half of the walk, then returning along a single file bush track completing a loop.  A good trial walk for someone who is unsure of walk distances and the routine of walking with a group.

CHILDREN AND PETS:  This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home.  Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.

AWT GRADE 2 (Easy):   Participants will need to be able to climb up 30 steps in one section, and approx 20 steps downhill in another.  AWT Grade information.

PACE:  Slow and steady.  We want an enjoyable ramble in the local bushland.

TOTAL ASCENT: One short medium uphill (approx 75vm in length) at the end of the walk.

    WALK DESCRIPTION:

Walk will commence from the carpark near the picnic area/toilets at the Currawong Bushpark (plenty of car spaces).  We will drop down onto a local track to a bridge that crosses the Mullum Mullum creek, then turn northwards, reaching the Heidelberg/Warrandyte Road, which is half way.  From here the walk starts the return loop on bush tracks on the other side of the creek back to the cars. This section is very pretty - overlooking the Mullum Mullum from half way up the side of the valley.  Often wombats and koalas can be spotted along the track.

MEETING POINT:  Arrive and park at 9.15 am for 9.30 am walk.  Main carpark (near toilets) within the Currawong Bush Park.  Signage is very clear.  Jenny will be near a grey Mazda CX3.

DIRECTIONS:  Currawong Bush Park is found on Reynolds Road, Warrandyte.  A large sign indicates the entry.  Drive up an access road (unmade, but in good condition) to the picnic area which is well signed.  Melways 34 H6.

CARPOOLING/PUBLIC TRANSPORT: Although car-pooling is encouraged in our Club, there won’t be carpooling offered for this walk, and there is no suitable public transport.

PHONE SIGNAL:  There should be no trouble with phone signal.

TOILETS:  Yes, at the start/end of the walk
