Book a Threatened Species Ecologist workshop at your school for FREE
In 2024 Zoos Victoria, Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne and Moonlit Sanctuary bred and released 28 critically endangered Pookila back into the wild at the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne.
To support local communities to learn and care more about this wonderful species, Zoos Victoria is offering free 40-50 minute workshops at primary schools within the City of Casey.
Students and teachers will:
- Learn to identify features of the Pookila through interactive activities
- Explore the impact that domestic cats can have on our wildlife
- Find out how they can help reduce the impact of cats on Pookila
- Be provided with support and additional learning resources to continue learning about the species after the workshop
- Become a Fighting Extinction School and get an invite to this year's Showcase at Melbourne Zoo!
Places are limited, so book now.
Important information:
- These sessions are free to primary schools within the City of Casey only
- Each school can book only ne day, but may have up to three sessions on that day
- There are no live animals as part of this workshop as we priortise animal welfare. Find out more at Zoos Victoria's Guiding Principles for Animal Experiences
Terms and Conditions
- Once a date is booked, Zoos Victoria will be in contact to negotiate the time/s of your session/s
- Organising Teachers must coordinate a space for the presentation with a screen
- Information will be year level appropriate and aligned to Biological Sciences in the Science curriculum
- The visiting species ecologist (and any other Zoos Victoria staff assisting) will have a current Working with Children Check
- Children and students remain the responsibility of the teacher at all times
