    Event description

    This World Localization Day, June 21st , we invite you to join a live conversation – ‘Localizing Globally: Building a worldwide movement’ – featuring inspiring localization leaders from every continent. They will share what’s going on in their different places to bring about a global-to-local shift, and chart a new path forward for humanity. They will comment on the specific challenges they face and ways to galvanise the movement’s cohesion and strength.

    The online event will take the form of two separate calls, catering for different timezones.

    Event 1:

    June 21st: UTC 9:00am = London 10am, Berlin 11am, Delhi 2:30pm, Manila 5pm, Tokyo 6pm, Sydney 7pm, Auckland 9pm

    • Arnold Padilla, Philippines – Leader in Asian movements for peasants’ rights and food sovereignty with an eye to land reform and policy change 
    • Seetha Ananthasivan, India - Founder of Bhoomi College for sustainable living, Prakriya Green Wisdom School, and the India-wide Bhoomi Network
    • Debra Efroymson, Bangladesh – Activist working on localization, education reform, women’s empowerment and car-free cities
    • Michelle Maloney, Australia – Leader of the New Economy Network Australia and the Australian Earth Laws Alliance, informed by indigenous knowledge and bioregional economics
    • Keibo Oiwa, Japan – Best-selling author and charismatic leader of Japanese movements for localization, ecovillages, and cultural transformation
    • Shail Shrestha, Nepal – Co-founder of Digo Bikas Institute, which challenges conventional urban development, and promotes localization and sustainability
    • Vicki Selwyn-Barnett, Australia – Passionate community builder in Sydney
    • Kunzang Deachen, India – Community organizer supporting young farmers, mindful tourism, and cultural vitality, and coordinator of Local Futures Ladakh
    • Vu Truong, Vietnam – Inspired young man helping to build local food systems, local economies, and youth movements in Vietnam.
