London Drafts: A Play Reading Series
Event description
London Drafts: A Play Reading Series
Join us for three consecutive weeks this June for London Drafts, a series of staged readings celebrating local plays and emerging talent.
Presented by Theatre Aezir, London Drafts showcases fresh work from London-based playwrights, uplifting new voices and stories. This series also serves as a fundraiser in support of our upcoming summer production: That Summer by David French — a free outdoor event running July 16–26 at the Guy Lombardo Pavilion in London, ON.
Come be part of the development of new theatre and help us bring exceptional stories to life!
Week 1 – Sunday, June 1: Mrs. Kray by Christen Shepherd
Set in London’s East End during the 1960s, Mrs. Kray explores the infamous Kray twins’ rise and fall through the eyes of their devoted mother, Violet. Beyond the glamour and crime, this story reveals a deeper narrative of mental health, poverty, and the fierce loyalty of women.
Week 2, Sunday, June 8th: A Fork in the Road by Jan Sims
A young couple from the big city arrive at a Midwestern Ontario country inn, expecting a romantic weekend away from the hustle and bustle. They are welcomed by their particularly strange hosts... an older couple, with a specific appetite. When they go into the woods that day, they're in for a big surprise! Cannibalism, retirement, and true love intersect in this dark comedy.
Week 3 – Sunday, June 15: Geez, Louise! by Shelley Lapkowski
In a lively suburban condo complex, Louise’s quiet life is upended when flashy, headstrong Amber moves in next door. Sparks fly, gossip spreads, and grudges grow—until a twist of fate unites them against a common foe. A sharp, fast-paced comedy about unexpected friendship and finding connection in chaos.
