Look Upstream: Localisation at the structural level | Localisation Sharing Circle
Description
'The economy' is often treated as though it were a law of nature—the inevitable outcome of supply and demand, competition and economies of scale. But in reality, the economy is shaped by countless policy decisions that have, for generations, favoured global corporations over local enterprises, often at great cost to people, communities and the living world.
If we want thriving local economies, resilient communities and regenerative futures, how do we move beyond local projects alone and begin addressing the structural conditions that shape them?
In this month's Localisation Sharing Circle, we'll explore how localisation movements can engage with systems and policy change, examining ways to shift the economic playing field in favour of local ownership, community wealth, ecological stewardship and long-term resilience. Together, we'll look upstream and discuss how local initiatives and structural change can reinforce one another.
Whether you're involved in grassroots community projects, advocacy, local government, research or simply curious about the role of policy in creating local economies, all are welcome to join the conversation.
What is a Localisation Sharing Circle?
The Localisation Sharing Circles are a monthly online gathering for people interested in creating more resilient, connected and localised communities and economies.
Organised collaboratively by the NENA (New Economy Network Australia) Localisation Hub, Transition Australia and Local Futures, these sessions provide a welcoming space to connect with like-minded people, share experiences, learn from one another and build stronger relationships across the localisation movement. 🌱
Each circle combines a short presentation with facilitated discussion and opportunities to hear about projects happening across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Whether you want to contribute your ideas or simply listen and learn, you'll leave with fresh perspectives, practical insights and new connections. 🤝
Together, we're exploring not just what localisation looks like, but how we can work together to make it a reality.
