Looping/Knotless Netting Workshop

Discover the ancient art of looping and knotless netting, a basketry technique practised for thousands of years by First Nations peoples of Papua New Guinea and Australia, as well as communities throughout Europe and South America.

Traditionally used to create baskets, fishing nets and food-gathering bags, these versatile techniques continue to inspire contemporary fibre artists today. Learn the difference between looping, which uses short lengths of fibre, and knotless netting, which is worked with one continuous strand.

Join the Bacchus Marsh Basketmakers for this hands-on workshop and create two beautiful decorative items: a covered stone and an ornate ring that can be worn as jewellery or used as a unique Christmas decoration.

This workshop is suitable for beginners, although fine motor skills are required. Please bring your reading glasses if needed.

All materials will be supplied.

The workshop will be run by Sue Dilley. Sue is a post president of the Basketmakers of Victoria and a member for 20 years. She is a member of the Bacchus Marsh Basketmakers who meet at the Lerderderg Library on the third Thursday of the month, 12noon to 3pm.
