Event description

An evening of bold, expressive music for solo guitar

Hailed as one of the world’s leading classical guitarists, Lorenzo Micheli has performed across five continents, with appearances at Wigmore Hall, King’s Place, Carnegie Hall, and the Konzerthaus in Vienna. Known for his precision, depth, and imaginative programming, Micheli now returns to the UK with Capriccio — a solo recital of striking contrast and historical depth.

Spanning three centuries, the program moves from the fiery sonatas of Paganini and the poetic reverie of Barrios’ La Catedral, to Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s vivid tributes to Goya and Paganini, and Llobet’s rarely performed La Folia variations.

Also featured are transcriptions of Chopin’s Preludes, bridging piano and guitar with restraint and nuance, and Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s elegant Rondo, closing the evening with clarity and poise.

About the Artist

Lorenzo Micheli has appeared in over 30 countries throughout Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Australia. UK audiences may know him from previous performances at Wigmore Hall, King’s Place, and the West Dean International Guitar Festival. His playing is praised for its clarity, lyricism, and depth.

A winner of the Guitar Foundation of America International Competition—the most prestigious classical guitar competition in the world—Micheli has recorded extensively for Naxos, Stradivarius, and Decca. He also performs with Matteo Mela as part of SoloDuo, one of the most acclaimed guitar duos in the world.

Micheli teaches at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano and is regarded as one of the foremost classical guitarists of his generation.
