Loss & Hope: Naming the Reality and Moving into the Future with Prof Liz Boase
Event description
Professor Liz Boase is our guest preacher and presenter at the AGM of the Presbytery of Southern SA.
We extend an invitation to all members of the Uniting Church for the morning session on Saturday 1 November 9.00 - 1.00pm at The Corner Uniting Church.
Liz is a Hebrew Bible scholar and Dean of the School of Graduate Research at the University of Divinity. She worked at Uniting College from 2009-2019. Liz's research focusses on reading the Bible through the lens of trauma studies. She has published on the books of Lamentations, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Jonah, Psalms and Genesis. Her most recent publication is Trauma Theories: Refractions in the Book of Jeremiah (Sheffield Phoenix Press, 2024).
Liz says … Jeremiah and Lamentations are difficult to read because they respond to a time of massive social disruption and loss. Drawing on insights from research into communal responses to trauma, Liz will explore the concepts of lament, anger, judgement and hope, and together we will discuss its relevance to the life of the Uniting Church today.
