Lost Skills: Knife and tool sharpening
Description
About the Lost Skills sessions
Visit the Nillumbik Repair Cafe to learn practical skills and help our community to reduce waste and transition to a circular economy. A circular economy is one that repairs, reuses and repurposes objects rather than throwing them away.
Lost Skills: Sharpening
Sharpening is a skill that will serve you for life.
This hands-on workshop will cover the fundamentals of sharpening knives, scissors, and common hand tools like secateurs, shears and saws.
You’ll learn how to read an edge, understand the correct angles for different tools, and work through a progression of sharpening methods so you can maintain your tools at home with just some basic equipment and skills.
What to bring
You're welcome to bring along your own knives, scissors, or any hand tool you’d like to learn how to sharpen. We'll look at the different items and give you personalised advice on appropriate tools and techniques to undertake the process at home. NOTE: You will not be sharpening tools during the session.
When is it?
Saturday 14 November, from 10.30am to 12pm.
Who is it for?
Lost Skills sessions are open to everyone in Nillumbik. This session is great for anyone wanting to learn a handy new skill, save money by doing their own DIY, or support a circular economy by giving objects a new lease on life.
Generously supported by the Nillumbik Shire Council Community Fund.
