Lost Skills: Shorten your clothes
Description
About the Lost Skills sessions
Visit the Nillumbik Repair Cafe to learn practical skills and help our community to reduce waste and transition to a circular economy. A circular economy is one that repairs, reuses and repurposes objects rather than throwing them away.
Lost Skills: Shorten your clothes
In this hands-on session, you’ll learn how to shorten jeans, skirts, shirts, dresses and sleeves so they fit properly, without paying for alterations.
We'll show you how to:
measure, mark and cut a garment to length, including the seam allowance
iron the new hem into place
choose the right stitches and techniques for a strong, lasting bond.
We’ll work through each step together, including how to do the job by hand as well as with a sewing machine.
As always, this Lost Skills session is a beginner-friendly workshop with no experience needed.
What to bring
Bring along a garment that needs hemming or taking up to work on during the session.
Who is it for?
Lost Skills sessions are open to everyone in Nillumbik. This session is great for anyone wanting to learn a handy new skill, save money by doing their own DIY, or support a circular economy by giving objects a new lease on life.
Generously supported by the Nillumbik Shire Council Community Fund.
