Description

During the Louisiana Cultures Camp Weekender, people of different backgrounds come together to learn about Indigenous, Afro-Diasporic, Latin, Creole-Cajun, Asian, and other cultures' contributions to our shared Louisiana Heritage. We explore cultures through participatory, hands-on workshops (cultural sharing, music, dance, heritage crafts, and language). We also include informal jams and conversations, live music performances, and food in our programming.

Cultural Exploration:
Come touch, taste, feel, make, and move!

  • We will be exploring the rich cultures of Louisiana through music, dance, food, language, heritage crafts, and more!

  • Every year, Louisiana Cultures sessions include Indigenous, Latin, AfroDiasporic New Orleanian, Creole, Cajun, and Asian cultural workshops and performances. This year, we will have Choctaw, Houma Nation, Dominican, Cuban, AfroDiasporic New Orleanian, Creole-Cajun, Brazilian, Vietnamese, and Filipino Culture Bearers.

  • Our last session is a “Cultural Sharing Talent Show” where everyone shares stories, songs, and more from their ancestors.

  • All workshops are participatory and all ages / any experience level.

Where is the event?

  • The event will take place at an event venue at Fontainebleau State Park outside of Mandeville on the Northshore. The event site includes a dancehall, commercial kitchen, bathrooms, showers, dorms, hiking trails, a large field, a lakefront beach, balconies, and patios.

Workshop / Day / Weekend / Overnight options:
