Program:
Watch the Tree Grow! - Jez Minfaq (9 mins)
A single tree takes centre stage, its roots stretching through time and memory. Each carries a force that has shaped it — the echo of culture, the noise of over consumption, and the imprint of childhood. As these roots twist and intertwine they drive a restless search for identity, which becomes an unfolding journey of self-discovery where the oddities and contradictions we usually hide are reclaimed as raw and unapologetic expression.
-----
Overgrown - Jasmine Griffiths (12 mins)
Overgrown is a narrative work exploring themes of isolation and mental health. The listener is invited to step inside a young woman's apartment, where her houseplants do not make the best company.
Voices: Sophie Harvey & Cleo Fawcett
-----
Escaping Natural selection: adaptability vs primal instinct - Erin Krejany (14 mins)
Description: This immersive work is a thought provoking piece, aiming to provide a new perspective on the success of human evolution. We explore the interplay between territoriality and adaptive traits within species that allow them to survive and thrive.
-----
Sonic Descent: Inferno - Ryan Zibell (16 mins)
This piece reimagines Dante Alighieri's literary classic "Inferno" as a spatial sound composition, transforming the poem's descent through hell into an immersive auditory experience. The piece utilizes a range of both synthetic and recorded sounds combined with a hellish instrumentation, to situate the listener into Dante's allegorical landscape of sin and punishment.
-----
Listening Practice is a monthly gathering of listeners open to all, where sonic research and practice is shared in a dedicated listening environment, with informal discussion encouraged afterward.
