HIJINX ALLEY, GodFire, and Burnt Noise present Justice Yeldham — Lucas ‘Granpa’ Abela.
Described as "a trumpet player trapped in a two dimensional universe” is the unique work of Abela, a maverick musician with an unhealthy obsession with sheets of broken glass.
In his now infamous show which has astonished and bemused countless people in over 45 countries, Abela ecstatically purses his lips against panes of amplified glass whilst deftly employing various vocal techniques ranging from throat singing to raspberries, to turn the discarded shards into crude musical instruments.
The results are a wild array of oddly controlled cacophonous noise teetering on the edge of music. This show quite simply needs to be witnessed to be fully appreciated, let alone understood.
A mainstay in the global noise and experimental electronic communities since the mid 90s, Lucas has also received recent attention for his contribution to experimental hip-hop project Death Grips’ most recent album ‘Year of the Snitch.’
Coming off the back of an extensive North American tour, we are enamoured to welcome him home.
Justice Yeldham will be joined by a showcase of Australia’s finest up and coming noise, experimental, electronic, and industrial acts.
