Event description

Luminous Creatures for Enlighten 2024

The Dinosaurs are back in Civic Square for Enlighten 2024 and we're getting amongst the fun again!

Join us at Craft + Design Canberra and have fun creating an imaginary glowing creature with Canberra sculptor and installation artist Michelle Day.  Participants will take inspiration from the bizarre and wonderful bioluminescent creatures of the ocean, experimenting with recycled plastics, paper and textiles to create unique creatures, to take home, which will be lit from within using battery powered lights.

Suitable for adults and children (recommended for children 6 - 12 years of age)

About Michelle

Michelle Day uses light and illumination as a key material throughout her art practice and sees it as a representation of warmth, hope and life.

Michelle has extensive experience in design and delivery of children’s art education and creative play experiences in national galleries, schools, communities and through art residencies focused on building children’s agency, such as Kids-X-Art Art Residency at Ainslie & Gorman Arts Centres.

Through art making Michelle aims to nurture children’s unique imaginations and foster child-led learning through play and tactile making experiences.

In her workshops she offers the opportunity to experiment freely, which she believes enriches children’s ability to problem solve, be self-directed and think creatively in all aspects of their life as both children and adults.
