Event description

NIFVS Lunch & Learn events are delivered as free sessions throughout 2025 to strengthen the practice skills and confidence of professionals to safely and effectively respond to family violence.

This Lunch & Learn will be delivered by Milli, Senior Multicultural Youth Worker at Drummond Street Services and Julia, Team Leader Family Violence at Centre for Multicultural Youth.

Join us at this session to:

• Understand the considerations and implications of working with AVITH.

• Learn about the program’s therapeutic support for young people and families and its whole-of-family approach.

• Hear how the program supports multicultural and multifaith families, respecting diverse cultural backgrounds and tailoring assistance to individual needs.

• Explore patterns and themes observed in the young people and families the program works with.

• Understand referral pathways and how to connect families with the right support

Standing Together is a partnership between Drummond Street Services and the Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY), supporting young people and their families experiencing conflict at home, including situations where a young person may be enacting, or at risk of enacting harm. The program takes a compassionate, non-judgmental, whole-of family approach to strengthen family relationships and promote the wellbeing and safety of children, young people, and families.

Following a presentation, participants will have the opportunity engage in a Q&A to unpack how this applies to practice.

About the presenters

Milli has been working with young people and families from multicultural backgrounds, including refugees and migrants, since 2021. Currently, she works as a Senior Multicultural Youth Worker in the AVITH field, within the Standing Together program - a collaboration between Drummond Street Services and CMY.

Julia has a decade of experience working with people from migrant and refugee background in several countries. She has worked in a few different roles within CMY, as a Team Leader for Gippsland and Program Manager for Youth Participation and is currently Team Leader for Family violence overseeing 4 emerging family violence projects, amongst them Standing Together.

Lunch and Learn sessions are designed for both specialist and non-specialist family violence practitioners under MARAM, with particular focus on professionals who may want to learn more about navigating family violence risk in their roles.
