Lunch for the Stars with Clare Bowditch
Event description
Join us for our 5th Lunch for the Stars event at the spectacular Noah's on the Beach, with Clare Bowditch as our guest speaker!
Musician, broadcaster, sometimes actor, speaker, entrepreneur, and more recently, a top ten, best-selling author, Clare is a master storyteller and we are so excited to have her in the room with us next September.
With a childhood punctuated by grief, anxiety and compulsion, Clare has battled with her inner critic for many years. She understands intimately how resilience comes from experiencing adversity and she also knows from experience how these forces can shape your life for the better. A poignant and important message for many of the young people we support at Grow a Star.
Through her music, writing and acting this beloved Australian artist has touched many lives and we have no doubt that anyone lucky enough to get a ticket to this lunch, will walk away with much to think about.
Clare's Story
Clare has won the coveted ARIA Award for Best Female for her music, the Rolling Stone Woman of the Year Award for her contribution to Australian culture, and has been nominated for a Logie Award for her role as Rosanna on popular television show Offspring.
Her very first book, a partial memoir entitled “Your Own Kind Of Girl” was released through Allen & Unwin in October 2019 and made an immediate splash with a top 7 placement on the Neilsen Book Charts, #1 seller for Dymocks, Readings and Booktopia and two re-printings in the first week. It won the 2020 Australian Book Industry Award (ABIA) for “New Writer of The Year” Award and has been named as one of Audible’s “Top 50 Books of All Time”.
In August 2020, she released an Audible Original audio book entitled “Tame Your Inner Critic” which has remained at the top of the Audible Charts since the day of it’s release. It epitomises her unique approach to skill-building, and story-telling, using a novel mix of humour, story-telling and science to help people have better relations with the voice of their self-doubt. It has been one of the most downloaded Audible podcasts over the course of the pandemic.
In music she has toured and performed at every festival, venue and truck-stop Australia has to offer and played with the likes of Leonard Cohen, Paul Kelly, Missy Higgins, Gotye and John Butler, to name just a few.
For two years she was a beloved broadcaster on the ABC speaking with millions of Victorians every week. She’s interviewed many of the greats, including sports stars, comedians, politicians, business-leaders, and her favourite: other soccer mums and dads who are doing what they can to make a difference.
She has been a professional speaker, M.C., and large-scaled choir leader for over a decade, having trained under mentors Fabian Dattner, and Faye White. Often focusing on her favourite topics of the importance of creativity and gaining courage.
In 2012, suspecting the future of business lay in harnessing creative talent and cultivating empathy, she crowd-funded the enterprise Big-Hearted Business, an educational resource reminding the world of the R.O.I. of “giving a shit".
After retiring from radio to pursue her creative projects, Bowditch has already had a very fecund time with “Your Own Kind Of Girl” and releasing the songs “Woman” and “If I Could Give You”. She is currently working on her 6th studio album and 2nd book.
ABOUT GROW A STAR
Each year at our lunch, we aim to raise $20,000.00, which will go directly to our Grow a Star program, a unique youth mentoring and scholarship program that helps young people from disadvantaged backgrounds overcome the financial obstacles that are preventing them from following their dreams.
This first of its kind program was initiated by Home in Place in 2012. Since its launch, the program has assisted hundreds of people to pursue their academic, artistic and sporting goals at grassroots and representative levels.
It is open to any young person between the ages of 10 -18, engaged in education, training or employment who can demonstrate a need for assistance.
We believe that encouraging generational change through empowering young people, has far reaching, long-term, positive effects with the community.
