Lunch + Learn: Queer History, Mardi Gras, and Sharing Pride
Event description
Grab your lunch and join the Minus18 LGBTQIA+ Education Team for a bite-sized educational event celebrating LGBTQIA+ history, the history of Mardi Gras, and stories of pride and freedom.
For LGBTQIA+ Allies, Community and Teams
This is a Lunch + Learn for everyone! Discover the history, and meaning of Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras – why the city is covered in rainbows, and the significance of Australia's largest LGBTQIA+ festival and celebration.
And of course, members of the Minus18 team will be sharing their own stories of LGBTQIA+ pride and freedom, to contextualise the know-how and education our presenters will be sharing.
Why Are We Hosting This Lunch + Learn?
Because we know that individuals, workplaces and organisations are dying for short and sweet LGBTQIA+ training to educate and inspire their teams!
We also know that during Sydney Mardi Gras season, teams and brands get involved – diverse teams with diverse levels of LGBTQIA+ knowledge, who might be LGBTQIA+, allies, or allies-to-be.
You've asked, we've listened – and we're so excited to share not only some of our most significant and inspirational moments of LGBTQIA+ history, but also our real-life stories of queer lived experience.
What Will We Cover?
- The history, significance, and meaning of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
- The importance of events like Mardi Gras in the history of LGBTQIA+ pride, freedom and equality
- Stories of pride and freedom from Mardi Gras history
- Lived experience stories shared by Minus18 team members
Is This Digital or In-Person?
This is a digital event! It's paramount to us that folks from all over the country are able to attend. We also know how difficult it can be to get your entire team together, in person, for training or education.
That said, each and every Minus18 Lunch + Learn is interactive, live-streamed, and entertaining – our experienced presenters know how to work a room, while inspiring and educating!
Do You Offer Discounts for Groups?
Absolutely! We offer discounts for corporate groups (choose the "Corporate Bundle" option), as well as "Pay-What-You-Can" for those who may not be able to afford a ticket, or who would like to pay it forward.
---
We acknowledge that this event is being held on stolen land, and we pay our respects to elders past and present. Sovereignty was never ceded and treaties were never signed; this is and always will be Aboriginal land.
