Kat Choi is a passionate pianist and chamber musician who has performed locally, and in Italy, Austria, and France. Her tenacity has seen her to self-curate annual concerts, beginning in 2017 while still a student. She generally avoids the competition scene, but has won prizes such as the 2021 Shoalhaven Piano Championship, and Sydney Eisteddfod Duo Sonata with Amanda Chen. Kat was a scholarship recipient while studying her Master and Bachelor of Music at the Sydney Conservatorium, under her teachers Phillip Shovk and Clemens Leske. She continues her connection with the Conservatorium as an Open Academy piano tutor. Since 2018, Kat has had intermittent guidance from pianist and writer, Paul Roberts, who she reveres – his love of Debussy and Ravel, and infectious enthusiasm for life and music, is a treasured source of comfort and motivation. She will return to Europe in 2024 for further study and performance opportunities. Kat has fundraised for five causes through concerts, her first marathon and half marathon races, and as a World Vision sponsor. When not immersed in music, Kat can be found frolicking in nature, reading with a good coffee and pastry, delving into other artistic channels, or spending time with friends and family.
