Lunchtime Tech Sessions by Canterbury Tech - April 16th, 2024
Event description
LUNCHTIME TECH SESSIONS brought to you by Canterbury Tech
With Quintin Russ, Technical Director, SiteHost
Join us for our April Lunchtime Tech Session with Quintin Russ.
Quintin will be presenting Glowing Ambitions: The Journey to a Solar-Powered Cloud.
In 2021, SiteHost connected 384 solar panels to our data centre and office in Penrose. Since then we’ve been much less reliant on the grid, and even fully solar-powered on sunny days. On top of that, going green has made good business sense as well. This talk will look at the process of adding so many panels to our roof, how our power generation has stacked up against expectations, and some other numbers from this successful project.
About Quintin:
Quintin is the Technical Director and co-founder of SiteHost, the largest NZ-owned hosting company. He comes from a development background and has spent the last 20 years becoming an expert in more technologies than we have room to list. Quintin now runs enough infrastructure to ensure that he rarely gets a good night’s sleep, and since 2019 he has also led the development of a unique PHP-focused serverless hosting platform. His most recent conference appearance was at CloudFest 2024 in Germany, where he announced the launch of new international hosting brand Webslice. When he’s not looking after servers he likes to play football and has recently taken up squash.
Feel free to bring any questions to this session.
