Conheça a Joana
Olá, sou a Joana!

Luso Kitchen: Portuguese Home Cooking with Joana
Join us for an afternoon of Portuguese home cooking at Luso Kitchen, our monthly workshop celebrating the food, flavours and family traditions of Portugal. Roll up your sleeves and and cook alongside Joana!
This month, Joana from Lisbon shares three recipes that are very special to her:
Pataniscas de Bacalhau (salt cod fritters): a childhood favourite made with her grandmother, perfect with tomato rice or bean rice
Almond Tart: her grandfather's favourite dessert, from a recipe she made with her grandmother during lockdown
Baba de Camelo (caramel mousse): the classic Portuguese dessert that always saves the day. It's simple, delicious and loved by everyone.
Meet Joana
Hi, I'm Joana!
I'm Portuguese, from Lisbon, and I've been living in Jersey for 5 years. One of the things I love most is sharing my culture, and I truly believe there's no better way to do that than through food.
At home, it feels just like Portugal. My boyfriend and I eat Portuguese food almost every day. I usually cook just for the two of us, but whenever I get the chance, I love cooking for friends and introducing them to the flavours and traditions I grew up with.
Everything I know, I learnt from my mum and, most of all, my grandmother. Even now, there are recipes that make me pick up the phone and ask, “ Vó (grandma), how do you make this?” And no matter how closely I follow her instructions, they never taste quite the same when they aren't made by her hands.
I hope you leave this class taking a little piece of Portugal home with you.
Our Chef - Joana
With thanks
