Lutruwita Animation Festival presents an evening of creative exchange featuring new locally-made films, artist talks and our popular student competition.

We are thrilled to announce Procreate as hosts at their in-house cinema located on Collins Street, Nipaluna/Hobart.

  • Choose from one of two sessions, or attend both

  • Following this, ticket holders are invited to join us as for networking drinks and nibbles at Baaa Bar.

Whether you're animation-curious, starting out or already an established professional, come along and get inspired!


FRIDAY 6TH NOVEMBER

Session 1 | 5:00pm to 5:30pm

STUDENT ANIMATION COMPETITION 2026 (30 mins)

(Films in this session are unclassified. Under 15s to be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.)

Experience the unique vision and creativity of young people in Lutruwita/Tasmania with new films made for this year’s student competition, open to anyone aged under 25. Check out a vibrant selection of finalists sharing hand-drawn, stop-motion and 3D animation from primary age through to tertiary and beyond.


FRIDAY 6TH NOVEMBER

Session 2 | 5.30pm to 7:00pm

SHOWCASE 2026 (90 mins)

(Films in this session are unclassified. Under 15s to be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.)

Join us for the World Premiere of three newly-animated short films plus two very special guests.

Needing inspiration or wondering what's next? In these times of rapid change for artistic professionals, this session provides encouragement and realistic insights to help you navigate emerging challenges.

  • Premiere screening:
    Lutruwita/Tasmania's brilliant Second Echo Ensemble premieres three short animations created by their brilliant ensemble, guest artists and produced with the support of Creative Australia.

  • Speaker 1:
    Procreate's in-house animator Taieri Christopherson will present 'The Pursuit of Being an Artist: How We Breathe Life Into an Image’. This rare behind‑the‑scenes session offers a glimpse inside one of Tasmania’s most influential creative companies.

    Taieri will share her journey as an artist and animator, reflecting on the skills, ideas and experiences that have shaped her practice. Through examples from her own work, audiences will gain insight into the creative process, the challenge of sustaining an artistic career, and the many ways images can be brought to life on the page and on screen.

  • Speaker 2:
    Jamie Clennett’s extensive career spans decades in the creative industry. In a candid presentation, this professional animator, designer and illustrator will share insights from his Tasmanian origins through to an international career.

    Explore practical strategies for professional resilience in long-term artistic practice. See a range of Jamie’s work from short films, TV, theater and graphic novels. Learn about cultivating the stamina required to sustain a long-term passion through shifting demands, creative burnout and the inevitable dynamism of a creative career (biography at bottom of page).

  • Closing Q&A:
    Then it's over to you for your probing questions about thriving in animation.

About the Lutruwita Animation Festival

Featuring screenings, talks, workshops, and much more the Lutruwita Animation Festival (LUTAF) spotlights Australian animated filmmakers. From cutting-edge releases to diverse and underrepresented voices, participants can discover animated works rarely seen elsewhere, connect with industry professionals and immerse themselves in Nipaluna/Hobart’s dynamic cultural scene. LUTAF offers both entertainment and professional development, making it a cultural highlight and unique Tasmanian meeting place for animation lovers.


LUTAF's focus is original, new work from emerging talents through to established artists. Journey through the rich diversity of our local animation scene including traditional hand-drawn animation, sand animation, stop-motion animation, and 2D and 3D animation. Since 2024 we have showcased our annual Student Animation Competition, Screen Australia-funded short films, high-end commercial commissions, popular feature films and deeply personal short films developed by individuals and community groups.

About Procreate ~ Venue Partner

Procreate is one of the top ten best-selling iPad apps on the App Store and in 2018 Procreate became the overall best selling iPad app. In 2023 the company released Procreate Dreams, focusing on 2D animation. About Second Echo Ensemble ~ featured artists

Based in Nipaluna/Hobart, Second Echo Ensemble has toured around Australia and internationally, and is a leading creative force in the development of a narrative that speaks to the rich diversity of Tasmania. At the heart of Second Echo Ensemble are the artists who make and perform the work. Some live with disabilities, and some do not. Second Echo Ensemble is committed to reimagining how art is made, who can make it and where it happens. Second Echo Ensemble is proudly supported by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body, the Tasmanian Government through Arts Tasmania, and its generous donors and volunteers.

About Jamie Clennett ~ guest speaker

Tasmanian-born animator, designer, illustrator, and author J.W. (Jamie) Clennett completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Tasmania in 1999 and graduated with a Bachelor of Dramatic Arts (Design) from the NIDA in 2002. From 2002 to 2008 he designed sets and costumes for touring theatre companies, including Hit Productions in Melbourne. In 2004 Clennett completed a Diploma in Animation and Interactive Media at RMIT, where he produced the short animated film The Fabulous Adventure of Mr. Money: Diary of an Entrepreneur, which premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2005. Clennett has created animated content for a range of international clients, including SBS, the BBC, Picasso Pictures (London), Pirate Productions (Edinburgh), Passion Pictures (London), the Red Cross, Museums Victoria, and Norwegian Cruise Lines. Alongside his animation work, Clennett has produced video design for theatre and stage productions. His video design work began in 2008 with Priscilla Queen of the Desert – The Musical (Broadway, New York) and has since included productions such as Shoes: The Musical (Sadler’s Wells Theatre, London), Wild and Astroman (Melbourne Theatre Company), Kiss of the Spider Woman (Melbourne Theatre Company), Voss (State Opera of South Australia), and The Who’s TOMMY (Victorian Opera). Clennett’s short film GRISTLE won Best Film in the Australian Program at the Melbourne International Animation Festival in 2013. His debut graphic novel The Diemenois was shortlisted for the Aurealis Awards, won Silver in the Comic Arts Awards of Australia, and was long-listed for the Tasmanian Premier’s Literary Prize in 2017.
