Event description

Strategies for Social Change: Creative Workshop with The Black School Process Deck

Led by Torika Bolatagici, creator of the Community Reading Room, now showing in de-centre re-centre

Join us for an engaging workshop utilising The Black School's innovative Process Deck – a powerful tool for creative activism. This tarot-style deck, created by The Black School, serves as an interactive methodology for brainstorming and designing impactful artistic projects with social purpose.

Under the guidance of Torika Bolatagici, participants will explore how art can catalyse change at the local level. Through a series of guided questions and choices using the Process Deck, you'll identify issues that matter most to you, examine their context, and develop creative projects to address them.

Whether you're an artist, educator, organiser, or simply interested in creative approaches to social change, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to engage with a practical tool for art activism. No prior preparation or experience is required – all are welcome to participate in this collaborative exploration of art's potential for social impact. Suitable for ages 16+

Her work has been exhibited in public and private institutions in San Francisco, New York, Miami, Minneapolis, Taiwan, Mexico City, Yogyakarta and throughout Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia.

The exhibition highlights the strength and diversity of contemporary photography in Australia. Deploying and disrupting conventions of portraiture and landscape, the selected artists explore place and belonging in First Nations, diasporic and queer communities.
