Join LWAG for floor talks on two powerful exhibitions:  Birrundudu Drawings + Gracie Greene: It's Time!

Artists, descendants, cultural authorities, curators, and researchers will gather to share the stories behind these exhibitions and the important legacies they contain.

Birrundudu Drawings

In 1945, over a three-month period, sixteen Aboriginal men at Birrundudu Station created 810 crayon drawings depicting their extensive knowledge of Country, Ceremony and Ancestral narratives. Apart from a handful of drawings, most have never been seen. The exhibition is the result of four years of active re-engagement with descendants and communities connected to the original artists, who have helped bring the stories and cultural significance of these drawings back to life. The exhibition showcases more than 100 of these drawings and includes a contemporary response by artist Jimmy Tchooga.

Gracie Greene – It's Time!

This exhibition celebrates Gracie Greene's prodigious cultural and artistic contribution as a major figure in the development of the Balgo art movement. Over her lifetime, Greene experienced enormous social change and developed a unique visual language that allowed her to fulfil her responsibility to impart knowledge. From her early creative output at Balgo to a long partnership with Mangkaja Arts at Fitzroy Crossing, her work embodies a significant legacy.

Part of the 2026 Perth Festival Visual Arts Program. Presented by The Berndt Museum and The Cruthers Collection of Women's Art at The Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery with support from The Berndt Research Foundation, Mangkaja Art and Warlayirti Artists.
