Lyrics Born w/ Sista Kat & Pharroh
Description
After breaking new boundaries in the hip-hop world over the last 27 years, Lyrics Born is constantly pushing ahead with new waves of innovation. Born in Tokyo and based in the Bay Area, he has been a pioneer among Asian-American artists. The self-proclaimed "funkiest rapper alive" carries on his tradition of weaving funk and soul into classic, boom-bap hip hop. Lyrics Born calls upon influences such as James Brown, George Clinton and Bootsy Collins who have shaped his mentality. Coupled with his love of rap pioneers such as KRS-One, Rakim and Snoop Dogg, LB's music is the perfect hip hop and funk-flavored gumbo.
His live shows set themselves apart as he brings a full band to "keep it all the way funky" for his audience. Lyrics Born's level of hip-hop mastery comes as no surprise. The talent of his band though is a whole other story. This is a full-fledged funk-rock explosion spearheaded by the superstar guitar and bass duo of Ben Misterka (Collectivity) and Uriah Duffy (Whitesnake). Whatever drummer they happen to bring never fails to put on a jaw-dropping clinic of virtuosity. The Crazy Horse has become a home away from home for them and they never fail to get the place jumping! Last time there was some mentioning of retirement. Fortunately that was just talk and there appears to be no end in sight for this living legend as he turns over yet another leaf on this LB Baby Tour.
Starting the night, we are thrilled to welcome our old friend and local high priestess of roots reggae, dancehall and hip-hop – Sista Kat. The crowd tends to hold its collective breath when she takes control of the mic with her unmistakable flow and high-vibe word-smithery. She will be backed by one of the most respected DJs in this region – Pharroh. He is an independent hip-hop artist, producer, and songwriter whose music lives at the intersection of razor-sharp lyricism, cinematic production, and fearless experimentation. Emerging from Nor Cal’s underground scene, he has spent years carving out a sound that blends hip-hop, electronic influences, and immersive storytelling into something unmistakably his own. When it’s time for LB to go, Pharroh will keep the dancefloor bouncing.
