Mabon: Autumn Equinox

The Wheel turns, and we find ourselves standing at the threshold of Mabon, the second of three harvest festivals and the Autumn Equinox—when light and dark meet in perfect balance before the descent into the darker half of the year. This is a time of reckoning, a pause to gather in the harvest of our efforts, to take stock of what has flourished and what has withered, to give gratitude for what nourishes us, and to surrender what must now be laid to rest.

Mabon is the medicine of the waning light, the invitation to attune ourselves to the Great Descent—both in the land and within. Just as the trees begin to shed their leaves, we too are called to release, to let go of the excess, and to prepare for the deep inward journey ahead. Jane Hardwicke Collings teaches us that this season mirrors the pre-menstrual phase, the Wild Woman archetype—when truth surfaces, masks slip away, and we are asked to stand in radical honesty with ourselves. It is a time to honor what we have grown, to acknowledge where we may have overextended, and to reclaim our energy in service of what truly matters.

At this Mabon gathering, we will come together in sacred space to honor the turning of the Wheel through ritual, circle, and ceremony. We will sit in reflection, weaving gratitude and release into our prayers. We will craft and create, anchoring the wisdom of this time into our hands and hearts. We will share in the nourishment of the season, grounding ourselves in the gifts of the Earth.

This is an invitation to step into the liminal space of balance before the descent—to gather wisdom from this sacred moment of balance, to let go of what no longer serves us as we prepare ourselves todescend into the darker and cooler months of the year.
