Screening with Violence In The Cinema Part 1 (1971)
Directed By George Miller
Synopsis:
In a not-too-distant dystopian future, when man's most precious resource -- oil -- has been depleted and the world plunged into war, famine and financial chaos, the last vestiges of the law in Australia attempt to restrain a vicious biker gang. Max (Mel Gibson), an officer with the Main Force Patrol, launches a personal vendetta against the gang when his wife (Joanne Samuel) and son are hunted down and murdered, leaving him with nothing but the instincts for survival and retribution.
Bondiwood is pleased to host this unique event. This session uncovers the previously untold story. That is the creation of Max. We’re going to run two movies during the session. The first is a short film made by George Miller and Byron Kennedy when they were young underground filmmakers. In the early 1970s violence in the cinema part, one is a photo documentary analysing the psychological effect of violence in the ci on the viewer. By the careful construction of camera angle and editing the filmmakers have ingeniously, reproduced, raw and confronting violence. It’s a cleverly made look at the effect of on screen violence. We will then run the next film mad, Max and the development and intrinsic connection between the two films is evident. Director George Miller will give us his thoughts on the development of the world of Max and how he became a world wide sensation. This is a one off, no to be missed.
