MAGIC LANTERNS

In the summer of ‘64, LSD was legal, Sharon Tate was still alive
and a bus called Furthur was establishing its place in the zeitgeist of the cosmic subconscious. Thee Magic Lanterns, brainchild of bi-coastal musician Joe Bummer, takes this world and challenges you to imagine a parallel timeline. One where Jimi and Janis lived just long enough to get fat and Mark David Chapman missed on that fateful December day outside of the Dakota Hotel. Taking inspiration lyrically from the likes of Robert Hunter and John Perry Barlow along with his distinct, melodic guitar stylings inspired by everyone from Lightin’ Hopkins to Melvin Sparks and Jerry Garcia, the music of Joe Bummer acts as a psychic conduit to the rambling diaspora of Americana that was the early 70's.
Joe Bummer has since gathered some of the best local talent in Durango to back him up as he brings this cavalcade of swirling psychedelia to the masses. Performing as Thee Magic Lanterns, the musicians in Joe’s line-up consists of: Joe Bummer— Lead Vocals and Guitar, Adam T Millard (of The Monkberries)— Vocals and Guitar, Zach Oliver (of Alex Dunn & The Deal, The Poppletons) - Drums, Jay Bakelaar — Bass, and John Reeve (of Nuages de Desert) — Piano/Keyboards.
