Mahara Hui Australia 2026

Mahara Hui Australia brings together portfolio practitioners, learning and education designers, academics, and education managers for a day of in-person conversation about portfolio practice with Mahara. Join us for a relaxed community gathering, a 'hui', where we'll share our Mahara stories, swap ideas, and explore what's next together.

This is an intimate event with space for up to 20 people. Bring your questions, your challenges, and your curiosity. We want to hear from you.

We've planned this event in the same location as MoodleMoot Australia 2026 the day before. Keep building connections and explore ideas for how your learning and portfolio systems can support your practice.

Preliminary programme

• 10:00: Coffee on arrival, welcome, and introductions; Your chance to settle in, grab a coffee, and meet fellow members of the Mahara community.

• 10:30: Mahara: 20 years on: Mahara Project Lead Kristina Hoeppner leads a brief retrospective celebrating two decades of Mahara.

• 11:15: Show and tell: Presenter to be confirmed: Extending continuing professional development to better support external reviewers.

• 12:00: Open session: Discuss with other organisations how they use Mahara. Bring the questions that have been bugging you: 'How can I do this? Can you help?' Whether the answer is 'yes, today' or a future development idea, we'll work through it together.

• 13:00: Catered lunch: A great chance to connect with new people and continue conversations.

• 14:00: Working with forms in Mahara: Kristina Hoeppner walks through the proposed functionality to scaffold learner responses.

• 14:45: Wrap-up, upcoming events, and what's next for you.

• 15:00: Good bye: Thanks for joining us.
