Mahfel Khanomha Women’s Workshop
Description
Mahfel Khanomha – A Women’s Circle
Womanhood, Culture & Expectations
Mahfel Khanomha is a free, welcoming women’s circle created for Farsi-speaking women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, particularly women of Iranian and Afghan heritage. It offers a safe and supportive space to connect with other women, share experiences, and build meaningful community relationships.
Through guided conversations, personal reflection, and gentle wellbeing activities, participants are invited to explore womanhood, cultural identity, family and social expectations, self-discovery, and self-care. Each gathering provides an opportunity to reflect, learn from one another, and take time for personal wellbeing in a relaxed, non-judgmental environment.
About the Facilitator
Selina is a Farsi-speaking woman from a culturally and linguistically diverse background, a yoga teacher, and a sound healing facilitator. Her own experiences of living in Australia have helped her understand some of the challenges women from migrant and multicultural backgrounds may face, including navigating different cultural expectations, balancing family responsibilities, and finding a sense of belonging while developing their own identity.
During a challenging period in her life, Selina discovered how yoga helped her slow down, reconnect with herself, and support her emotional wellbeing. This experience inspired her to share the benefits of mindful movement, relaxation, and self-reflection with others.
Selina founded Sanctuary 7788, a Melbourne-based wellbeing initiative dedicated to making yoga, mindfulness, gentle movement, and sound relaxation accessible to people from diverse backgrounds. Through Mahfel Khanomha, she hopes to empower women to prioritise their wellbeing, strengthen their sense of connection, and feel supported in their personal journeys.
