Byron Bay’s Music Community Comes Together to Raise Funds for Nepal Flood Relief

The Byron Bay music community is coming together for Dance for Nepal, a special fundraising event at Haven on Sunday 20 September, bringing together some of the region’s leading DJs, promoters and music crews for a day of music, community and collective action.

Created and presented by Mahico, Dance for Nepal has been organised to raise funds for people affected by the devastating floods in Nepal, with 100% of profits going directly to those in need.

The event brings together representatives from across Byron Bay’s independent music community, with some of the region’s strongest promoter crews each putting forward a DJ to take part. The result is a collective lineup representing the diversity, creativity and community spirit of the local music scene.

Participating crews include Aruanda, Barefoot Beat, Sacred Hearts, Reverie, Deepdown, Nudge Nudge Wink Wink, Flo Records, Haven and Mahico.

Importantly, all DJs and crews are donating their time to the event, allowing as much of the money raised as possible to go towards the cause.

A COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER

Dance for Nepal has its roots in an earlier fundraising event organised by Mahico  co- founder Jordan Deck.

In 2015, Jordan brought the local music community together for a Dance for Nepal fundraiser, which raised $13,000 for people affected by the devastating earthquake in Nepal.

More than a decade later, the idea is returning with the same spirit: bringing people together, creating something positive and using the power of music and community to help those who need it.

“After what we achieved back in 2015, I always felt that if there was another moment when Nepal needed support, we could bring the community together again.”

“This isn’t about one promoter, one crew or one event. It’s about bringing the whole community together and using what we have — music, connection and a dancefloor — to do something meaningful.”

RAFFLE CONTRIBUTORS

A fundraising raffle will also take place as part of the event, with local businesses and brands generously donating products, vouchers and experiences to help raise additional funds.

Dance for Nepal will take place at Haven, Byron Bay, on Sunday 20 September, bringing together DJs from across the local scene alongside food, drinks, community and fundraising activities.
