Haere mai, haere mai ra! E te iwi nui tonu rā, haramai ki ngā pārae o Taurawhārona.
Whakataukitia ai a Ruataupare “Mate atu peka whenua kia ora ai a peka tangata e."

Nā ngā ruri whenua i utu ngā nama. Ka hoko whenua ka ora tangata e. Haere mai, haere mai ra!
Nā ra Te Whānau a Karuwai, Ngā Wēkahu o Te Whānau a Rakairoa. Rukuruku a Kōkai ki Otūmahurangi, rukuruku a Puputa ki Waiōmatatini, rukuruku a Kawakawa Mai Tawhti Tapuae o Te Ao inā a Hinerupe e.
Haere mai aku nui, aku wehi, aku whakatiketike ki runga ra! He paruparu no te Tairawhiti kia ruku mai koe!

We are looking forward to celebrating the opening of our wharekai with everyone. While we’re still confirming some details, we wanted to get the dates and registration for numbers out to you as soon as possible.
Te Noho Ki Rō Pā // Marae Facilities
For those whānau wishing to stay at the pā, the wharenui will be open from Friday 24th. The Wharekai will not be available until the opening. Please make sure you are as self-sufficient as possible. Bring your chilly bins, and all the good things! We will have barbeques there and looking forward to kaitahi with everyone!
Please note that we are only able to sleep 30 people maximum. Feel free to bring a campervan or tent to set up. Kaumatua will be given priority.
There is a very basic single shower available and two toilets operating for the time being. The ablution block is phase three, with phase two being the wharenui of our marae development. Be ready to put your ringa up to be a trustee! Karawhuia

Keep an eye on our Karuwai Marae Facebook page for updates, including our online wānanga series and working bees to prep for our opening (27th&28th Sept and 11th&12th October): Ka Hika Rā Taku Ahi nā Māui in preparation for the opening and Pā Wars 2026.
As a paku aside, bring some cash as we might, just might (or might not) have some cool Karuwai car stickers and a copy of the original hi-res photo print of our Kāuta as a fundraiser.
We will also be announcing our Karuwai Koha scheme as well, all part of our efforts to raise pūtea for our little lovely mahana marae.
