Make a Kauri Cheese Platter and Cheese Knife, West Auckland RE: MAKERSPACE, Saturday 30 November, 10am - 3pm

Event description

Proudly brought to you by the Auckland Council Waste Solution.

In this workshop, The ReCreators will teach you about woodwork and how to safely use tools. You will head home with your own beautiful Kauri Cheese Platter & Knife!

This will be an enriching and hands-on workshop where you'll craft a cheese platter & a knife from recycled native kauri wood. This event is perfect for woodworking enthusiasts and beginners alike who are interested in sustainable practices and creating functional art.

Learn how to properly sand, treat, and finish your platter to ensure it's food-safe and long-lasting. We'll cover different finishing options and techniques to protect and enhance the wood's natural beauty.

There will be a health and safety briefing at the start of the workshop to inform participants of safety precautions before we begin using tools.

Tools that will be covered in this workshop are a jigsaw, power drill, and sander. All participants must wear covered shoes and non-flowing clothing (tight-ish!).

Some work may be outdoors, please wear clothes according to the weather.

* Please note children are not able to attend with parents due to health and safety requirements.

You need to arrive at this workshop for the beginning of class and the health and safety briefing to be able to take part in the rest of the class.

The workshop will provide the following:

  • Health and Safety Briefing
  • Step by step use of all tools
  • Where to extend yourself for tools 101
  • Personal attention where required

When: Saturday 30 November, 10am - 3pm
