Make your own wildlife home ~ bee & insect hotel, or bird & possum boxes ~ at Sustainable Living Festival

Would you like to encourage wildlife into your backyard?

Our yards can be great habitat, and important stepping stones or links for wildlife ~ birds, bees, butterflies, bugs and beetles ~ connecting up our yards and linking to bush reserves. But you do need habitat suitable for wildlife around you.

Natural tree hollows are always the best homes for wildlife. Trees should always be retained wherever possible. However, nest boxes may help to supplement natural homes.

On this activity we'll make some bee/insect hotels or bird & possum boxes ~ with the Port Stephens Woodworkers and the generous sponsorship of Port Stephens Packing. You can make your own wildlife home with the Woodworkers who have precut everything and will help you put it together at the Festival, or purchase the finished product.

There's an Humanitix booking fee of 2.5% + 0.50 cents to Humanitix charity for children. This is included within the fee above. If you need to cancel your order, this fee will not be refunded and your refund will be 95% of the total cost, provided it is 3 days prior.

Choose your preferred time to register between 9am and 2pm when booking. Times available are from 9am, there's a booking slot each 15mins. 

When booking, each order is limited to 1 wildlife home per person, and up to 3 homes per order. Each time slot has a maximum of 3 wildlife homes requiring 3 different people. For families or groups with more than 3 people, please make another order however it will need to be at a different time. Note that some time slots may already have an order.

Children U/10 must be supervised by a parent or guardian, and U/18 a parent or guardian at the site. 

We’ll be providing more information about the best locations for placing your insect hotels and bird and possum boxes ~ how to attach, nest box materials, what you need in your backyard and what else you can do to create wildlife homes in your back yard.
