Event description

make your own hummingbird swing

Tuesday, May 6th | 6 PM | Our Lady of the Snows | $5 | Sign-up Required

In this class, students will learn how to construct a copper hummingbird swing. This class is good for people who want to learn about attracting hummingbirds and building habitats in our area. You will use copper bending tools, pliers, and decorative beads to construct a hummingbird swing you can take home and incorporate into your hummingbird habitat setting.

Dianne Harrington is a snow enthusiast residing in Sandy, UT. She studied Natural Resources Conservation Management at the University of Kentucky. Dianne moved to Utah in 2002 for a ski winter, a chance to see the many national parks, rivers, and mountains. She has always loved wildlife and connecting with nature. Dianne maintains mountain-side ski-accessed bird feeders in LCC during the winter and spring months. The responsibility of maintaining feeders and the connected benefits to both myself, other observers and the birds are tremendous. The birds eat a lot of the provided seed and benefit from habitat construction. As summer approaches, she gets exceptionally excited about the return of the hummingbirds. Climate change, loss of the Great Salt Lake, and reduced habitat are all issues facing the health of our local birds. Feeding the birds, helping them through migration, building habitat, and teaching others about the importance of our natural world is her mission here in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Salt Lake City, and the world.

ACE aims to create an inclusive and accessible environment for all of our attendees; please contact our Executive Director, Sara Gibbs, with any questions regarding accessibility
