Make Your Own Silver Ring with Qing
Event description
**This is a two-part class taking place 6:15-7:30pm on Wednesday 19th and 26th June (fee covers both classes)**
Come and make your own silver ring! Making something yourself if always so meaningful, and to make a ring - something significant that we likely wear everyday - has even extra charm.
This class will introduce you to silver jewellery making using the technique of “Lost wax casting”. This involves working with a wax ring that becomes the cast for your silver ring.
You will shape the wax to uniquely fit your finger, and then shape and carve your design from the wax. You can make a delicate, fine silver ring or a thick chunky one.
This is 100% beginner class.
What will we cover?
This is a two-part workshop. In part one you will learn:
- What is lost wax casting
- How to use the different tools and wax
- How to file the inside to size your ring
- How to cut away excess wax to create your design
- Create your own wax cast
Between classes your wax cast will be turned into your silver ring, and in part two you will:
- Learn to file your silver using different grades of files so that rough edges and scratches are removed
- Learn to polish your silver
- Choose whether to apply an oxide to add a darker finish to your silver
Feel free to come with some inspiration images of styles of rings you like or an idea of what you would like to engrave! However, we will also show you ring styles within the class to give you some inspo.
