Making in Relation: Building Creative Partnerships at Adelaide University
Description
Connecting creative academics, artists and industry to imagine what’s possible
How might we bring creative academics, artists, cultural organisations and current and future industry partners together to create new possibilities for the arts at Adelaide University?
Making in Relation is a creative workshop and sector engagement initiative bringing together Adelaide University’s creative academics with partners from the arts and cultural sector to explore how relationships, collaboration and creative practice can generate new opportunities for performance making, research, teaching and industry-connected learning.
The workshop will create space to:
build and deepen relationships between creative academics, artists and industry partners
explore new models of collaboration, co-creation and industry-connected learning
develop opportunities for ongoing engagement between the university and the arts and cultural sector
experiment with creative and devising practices that can generate new creative ideas
identify pathways for collaborative research, teaching, professional learning and creative production
imagine new possibilities for the role and visibility of the arts at Adelaide University
The workshop draws on the Making in Relation practice-led research collaboration between Adelaide University and Massive Theatre Company (Aotearoa New Zealand).
Massive Theatre Company is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading organisations in devising and physical theatre. Founded and led by Artistic Director Sam Scott, Massive has developed a distinctive ensemble-based practice grounded in trust, collaboration, autobiographical storytelling and community-embedded theatre making.
Sam Scott will be joined by long term Massive Theatre Company member Denyce Su’a, bringing their extensive experience of collaborative performance making and ensemble practice into the Adelaide University context.
Rather than simply presenting a model of practice, the workshop invites participants to make, experiment, exchange ideas and build relationships together.
This is an invitation to think beyond individual projects and consider what might become possible when the university and the creative sector work in genuine partnership.
This workshop is free for Adelaide University creative academics and invited industry and sector partners. Making in Relation is co-hosted by the Adelaide University School of Education: College of Education, Behavioural and Social Sciences, and the College of Creative Arts, Design and Humanities, with additional funding from the Creative Arts Association Australia (CA3).
Note: A social event will be held at Taikunthi Restaurant following this workshop, from 4 - 5pm. If you would like to attend, please submit your RSVP with your registration.
