Making Progress in Prevention Possible Framework: Introduction for policy makers and practitioners in the Asia-Pacific
Event description
What's it about?
Globally, violence against women and girls (VAWG) affects around one in three women in their lifetime. In some countries in the Asia-Pacific, where more than half the world’s population lives, prevalence is as high as two in three women.
Despite widespread prevalence and acceptance, VAWG is preventable - if there is sustained commitment. The long-term goal is that women and girls everywhere live free from violence. To achieve this, the prevention of VAWG must be coordinated, holistic, inclusive, and centre gender equality, as well as encourage action from individuals, families, communities, businesses, civil society organisations (CSOs), and government at all levels. Progress must also be precisely tracked in the short-, medium- and long-term.
In 2021, The Equality Institute (EQI) and UN Women developed Making Progress in Prevention Possible: A monitoring framework for the prevention of violence against women and girls in the Asia-Pacific region, which is adapted from Australia’s framework Counting on Change, and aligns with the RESPECT Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals. It provides guidance to policymakers and practitioners for building a prevention framework that is contextually relevant to countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
Who is it for?
With an introduction from Melissa Alvarado (UN Women) and presented by Dr Emma Fulu and Dr Sarah Homan (The Equality Institute), this free webinar is for any policy makers and practitioners working on VAWG prevention in the Asia-Pacific. The webinar will introduce the key elements the framework and illustrate how to develop, contextualise, and implement the framework in countries in the region. There will also be a Q&A session with the presenters.
Please note: There are three webinars scheduled for time zone accessibility across the region. The webinar content will be the same for each session. Please attend the one that best suits your time zone/schedule. The Webinar will be recorded and shared with attendees after the event.
