    Join Dr Amanda Freeman from BirdLife North Queensland in conducting a diurnal (morning) bird survey. Amanda along with other members of BirdLife NQ will guide the group whilst observing and recording the bird diversity along the North Johnstone River. After the survey, the group will return to basecamp to collate data, identify species and discuss findings. Meet outside the Scout Hut 10 mins before start.

    Come and get your hands dirty and join local agronomist Dr Andrew Wood to learn about local soils. Andrew will explain how soils are formed and what soil forming processes may be operating at the BioBlitz site. In this interactive workshop you will learn about soil texture, colour and soil biology and more.

  9. General Admission: Flora survey along the North Johnstone River

    Join Stuart Worboys botanist from the Australian Tropical Herbarium and Dr James Hill to discover the diversity of plants inhabiting the riparian rainforest community along the North Johnstone River. Although this area was subject to revegetation activities throughout the 1990-2000's the community contains a mixture of native plantings and rainforest recruits and this survey will help us to gain a better understanding of the value of revegetation activities and how they contribute to local biodiversity.
