This NZAC webinar is the third in the 2023 Trauma series.

 Ken Clearwater, our presenter, has a rich background of experience practicing and presenting  in the area of Men and sexual trauma.

 Ken began working with and supporting male victim/survivors of sexual trauma in 1996, in a peer support group in Christchurch, started by Iain Bennett (survivor) in 1991.

Ken has been privileged to have presented at conferences and workshops on our ‘peer support model’ in Australia, Canada, England, Wales, Ireland, Norway, Uganda, Cambodia, Switzerland, USA (New York, Minneapolis, Boston, New Jersey, Phoenix Arizona, New Mexico and Los Angeles) and throughout Aotearoa.

Ken was invited by the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence to speak at the first male survivor workshop held by the United Nations in New York in 2013.

Twice a year he presents to the Senior Detectives from the Adult Sexual Abuse Unit at Police College Wellington.

Ken instigated male survivor services throughout Aotearoa and in 2013 with the support of the Police, ACC and MSD facilitated the setting up of a National Body, MSA (Male Survivors Aotearoa). www.malesurvivor.nz

Ken is  also a founding member of SSI (South-South Institute on sexual violence against men and boys, 2013) in conjunction with Dr Chris Dolan, Refugee Law Project Uganda and Alastair Hilton First Step Cambodia.

Ken has been part of holding four international conferences involving over 35 countries, 2013 Uganda, 2015 Cambodia, 2017 Christchurch, 2019 Uganda. We have held several webinars through COVID. www.southsouthinstitute.org 

 Currently a Kaitakawaenga (Commissioner) with the Royal Commission into abuse in care. www.abuseincare.org.nz

2020, Finalist in the New Zealander of the Year Awards.
