Mana Rangatahi - Journeys of Influence Showcase: Co-designing Schools of the future with rangatahi
Event description
Mana Rangatahi is all about exposing rangatahi to opportunities and we are excited to be rolling out an online schedule of awesome speakers over the coming weeks guided by this kaupapa/purpose:
"As tūpuna, ancestors of tomorrow, what message/legacy do I want to leave our future generations?"
Calling all youth near and far, join us at this unique session (designed for rangatahi) as we help co-design Aotearoa's first school with the help of our rangatahi/youth. You will get to meet Phillipa Dick, an experienced educator who has worked for over twenty years in the education sector. She knows that despite schools trying to evolve, the change is not rapid enough and many of our young people have become disengaged and disconnected from a passion for learning.Alongside two colleagues, Phillipa is creating their own school. The cool thing about this school is that they are not entirely sure what it will look and feel like yet because they want to plan it alongside the young people it’s designed for.
This school will act as a hub to connect young people to mentors in the Ōtepoti community and it will also connect them with the many amazing opportunities going on in our city.Phillipa is really excited to share this vision and dream and would love to have rangatahi/youth from near and far to join this session and share their ideas on how they would like this designed.
Missy Parata has her own radio show called the Loud Silence and her kaupapa/purpose, is to role model rangatiratanaga and inspire our rangatahi Māori to take paths with education and be at those tables to have a voice and make powerful changes, starting with our community.
Each young person is unique, they bring their own life experience, needs and expectations. No matter what the young person goes on to do in their lives, they will take something with them from our time together that will benefit them in ways we cannot even imagine.
Join this special duo as you have both sides of the generations share their mutual ambitions for rangatahi education pathways.
