Event description

Calling Local, National (NZ/Aotearoa) and all International Artists!

A heads up for all established, potential and budding creatives across NZ/Aotearoa and beyond. Now is the time to start planning and creating your entries for the world in-famous biennial Fakes & Forgeries Art competition and exhibition, planned for Labour Week-end 2025.

Celebrating 18 years since its inception in 2007, F&F’s was inspired by Mangaweka born forger Karl Sim (aka C.F. Goldie) and will be held at the equally celebrated and vivid “Yellow Church” Art Gallery, in Mangawek, right on State Highway One! The format is simple; Create an exact replica, A copy with a twist, or a completely new design, yet done in the style of a recognisable artist or artwork (say Picasso, Warhol, Constable or even a Colin McMahon!).

For a great insight into the event, see our TV1 Video interview from last time by Seven-Sharp at:

OR just Google “Mangaweka Fakes & Forgeries / Karl Sim / Richard Aslett AND for a brilliant Radio NZ podcast "Mangaweka Forgery Capitol of NZ" visit; https://www.rnz.co.nz/national...

With a large ca$h prize pool for the winners, a fun day of events planned with art exhibitions, demonstrations, markets stalls, village-wide Garage Sales and even a Massive Book Fair planned! - See the upcoming Mangaweka Mega on here and be sure to mark Labour Weekend in your diaries... Now!

The main Art exhibition is open to three groups, Adult section, 16 years and under, plus a special collective school's category (the Schools category being run by the local schools, please contact for further info).
