"Mapping the promotion of migration to Australia in the digital age" is part of Monash Faculty of Arts' Emerging Strength Seed Project led by Dr Earvin Cabalquinto.
As an attendee you will:
Attend the panel discussion featuring industry professionals, researchers, international students and content creators.
Participate in Q&A with the panel speakers (facilitated via zoom for online attendees)
Gain insights into how Australia is promoted, brokered and consumed as an ideal country of destination among newly arrived temporary migrants and international students.
Afternoon tea will be provided for in person attendees - coffee, tea, pastries!
This is a hybrid seminar, held both online via zoom and in person. There are limited in person tickets available but online tickets are unlimited - please be mindful of which you choose and feel free to contact our project officer if you need to make any changes (details on the host page).
MEET OUR SPEAKERS:
Gary Lee - From international student, Senior Fellow of the International Education Association Australia (IEAA) to being recognised as the Australian Day Council ‘New Australian of the Year’ and recently, an Order of Australia Medal, Gary has long been a passionate member of the international education community.
His commitment to fostering inclusivity and enhancing the experiences of students has made a significant impact on the local community. Through various initiatives and programs, many award-winning, Gary has worked tirelessly to address the challenges faced by international students, ensuring they receive the resources, guidance and support necessary for their success.
Gary is a member of numerous advisory committees including the Immigration Museum Advisory Forum, the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) Regional Advisory Council, Crime Stoppers Victoria and the Australian Government’s Best Practice in International Student Engagement Project.
Dr George Tan - George is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography, Environment and Population at the University of Adelaide. His research interests in international migration revolve around international students, skilled migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. Some of his recent work includes understanding the post-study migration outcomes of international students in Australia and the experiences of skilled migrants in regional migration programs. George is also collaborating with colleagues from various organisations and Australian universities on an ARC Linkage on exploring the resettlement of migrants and refugees in regional Australia, which will seek to highlight new and emerging issues in this space.
Traci Yan Yan Chen - Traci Chen is the visionary CEO of Maison Chen Law Group, a leading Australian migration law firm that has grown from startup to 80+ staff in just four years, becoming one of the country's fastest-growing legal practices. With a Bachelor of Laws from Flinders University, Traci has revolutionised migration law since 2015. In 2020, she pioneered using TikTok to deliver free, jargon-free migration advice through creative content that resonated with thousands. As the daughter of immigrants, Traci's personal connection fuels her commitment to helping others achieve their Australian Dream, building an industry-leading firm one client and dream at a time.
Adi Idham Siregar - Adi Idham Siregar is an Indonesian content creator, food vlogger, and postgraduate student at Monash University, pursuing a Master’s in Communication and Media Studies under the LPDP scholarship. With a background in broadcasting and public communication, Adi has worked with over 450 clients across Indonesia and Australia, creating engaging digital content that highlights culture, migration, and everyday life. As an international student in Melbourne, his work explores how digital media shapes identity, belonging, and cross-cultural experiences. Adi also founded BARBEL, a volunteer-based education movement in Indonesia promoting literacy, inclusivity, and national values through creative media.
Erikyle Jeuelle Aguilar - Erikyle is a Melbourne-based Filipino dancer and artist whose journey spans across Philippines, Doha, and Australia. Starting with Ballet at age four, she later expanded into Hip-Hop, Commercial, and Cultural dances, performing at concerts, festivals, and community showcases. As a Monash University Bachelor of Media Communications graduate and migrant, she channels her digital storytelling voice into blending dance/movement, culture, and lived experience through content, behind-the-scenes visuals, and community-driven projects. She aims to highlight the challenges migrant artists face, uplift underrepresented creatives, and advocate for stronger resources, visibility, and support systems for international students making a career in Arts sustainable.
