Marc Edwards/Gian Perez/Caroline Morton Trio & Roboquarians
Event description
Marc Edwards, Gian Perez & Caroline Morton trio:
The free improvisation trio consisting of Marc Edwards (drums), Gían Pérez (guitar) and Caroline Morton (bass) blends elements of free jazz, noise rock, and experimental ambient music to create soundscapes that range from high intensity infernos, to the nebulous vastness of outer space. Though relatively new as a unit, this trio has already played at established jazz institutions like Nublu, Downtown Music Gallery, Sisters & Rhizome DC, among others.
Marc Edwards is a "powerhouse drummer" (All About Jazz) who has played with giants like Cecil Taylor, Charles Gayle, David S Ware, Linda Sharrock and many others.
Roboquarians are Japanese born, Brooklyn-based Ayumi Ishito on sax and electronics, George Draguns on guitar, who came up through the hardcore scene of the 80s (“the movement” as Mike Watt calls it) and the ultra-flexible Kevin Shea on drums. The album is made of many different elements that complete this specific puzzle of creative sound. You could call it Black Flag jazz. Ishito manipulates her tenor saxophone sound obtaining ultra vivid colors. When you add Draguns’ sound impact into Ishito’s palette, together with Shea's blasting approach, it becomes a feast for mind expansion. A true connection between these players welcomes the listener into the unique improvisational music they craft. The band is always striving for new ingredients in their sound recipe. Played with spirit and a balanced light and darkness, The Roboquarians are striving for flavors, staying away from clichés and offering a fresh punk approach to the avant-garde scene.
